Adoption Policy

Additional Information

Gardens on Glen Urban Farm  has a small rabbitry located in Council Bluffs, IA. We raise Florida White rabbits as companion and therapy pets as well as for 4-H showing and meat. All of our kits (babies) are handled daily and are weaned off by their mothers between 5-7 weeks. All of our babies will be adopted out as pets. We will sell to other breeders older bunnies on occasion. Our babies will come with a full pedigree. Florida Whites are on the rare side in this multi-state area so if you are interested in breeding, please don't hesitate to contact us. We do keep a waitlist.

You can place yourself on the waitlist at anytime, we just need to know what category and/or gender you would prefer.

Once babies reach 6 weeks, I will get in touch with those on my wait list, in order of request submission date. I will only contact you if I have the category/gender you have requested.  We really do want to connect you with that perfect bunny! Please sign up for our waitlist after you have already discussed it with your family and decided that you want one, or more, of our bunnies. I know the prospect of getting a bunny, or bunnies, can be quite exciting but regardless of your intended purpose for your prospective bunny they are still a responsibility that should be carefully considered by all in the family or household. If you have questions or would like more information before signing up for the waitlist please contact us.

All of our bunnies are loved and treated with our kindness. We handle the babies from birth so they are tame. They have play times in their rabbit tractor and snuggle time in our laps!

Once you're on the waitlist keep checking the website for breeding and birthing date information posted. Once you are contacted at the 6 weeks of age date, you will need to respond quickly and you must put a $30 non-refundable deposit down to hold the bunny for you. If you choose NOT to respond in any way within 24 hours of reading my message I will need to move on to the next person on the waitlist. Please know that the non-refundable deposit, once sent, will go towards your final fee. The non-refundable deposit must be made within 24 hours through Paypal using friends and family HERE. If you do not pay using friends and family, the fees for paypal will be added to your balance due and collected upon completion of the sale when you pick up your new bunny.

If you are interested in our babies please read the adoption policy and submit a waitlist form. Generally speaking based on our breeding schedule, your wait time could be anywhere between 1 week to 12 weeks depending on availability based on your selected preferences. Some people on my waitlist are waiting for a certain gender or combination of genders (usually 1 buck and 2-3 does). It really depends on what our mama Does birth and what the nice people ahead of you in line are looking for but with a little patience everything works out.

Refunds for deposits will only be given if the bunny you are adopting becomes sick or if I cancel

the adoption. Refunds will not be given for any other reason. The rest of the payment is due when

you pick up your bunny. I will only accept cash or a second paypal payment like the first, absolutely no checks. If you don't want to bring a box or carrier with you, we have travel cages available for purchase starting at $20 but please know that we will not release the bunny to you without some kind of traveling container and we will not be held liable for any injuries or damages incurred should your vehicle be involved in a collision heading home, especially if the bunny is not properly secured in it's traveling cage while driving.

If you request a certain purpose quality (i.e. Show Quality) or gender we will ONLY contact you if your request is available. We want to make sure you are getting the best bunny for your family and needs. We need to make sure the babies are healthy and properly. The babies stay with me until they are 8 weeks. It could be longer if I feel they need it but our bunny mamas usually do a great job of weaning their babies between 5-7 weeks old.

We reserve the right to cancel or refuse an adoption as we determine necessary. Once a rabbit has left our possession, we do not hold responsibility. Upon pickup please thoroughly look over your rabbit. We cannot guarantee sex (though we are well practiced at it), show quality or fertility. Sexing rabbits at a young age can be difficult. Sometimes we tell the wrong sex by mistake. We do check several times and try to be as accurate as possible. But a mistake can happen! No refunds/exchanges on wrong gender rabbits. There is plenty of information to be found online, please research your rabbit breed.

We do not knowingly adopt any sick rabbits, our rabbits will be healthy to the best of our knowledge
when they leave the bunny barn. We are not responsible for the rabbit's health after it leaves.
Please do not feed fruits or vegetables or treats from a pet store to rabbits under 6 months of age.
We are not responsible for any vet costs after the rabbit has been sold.

WE DO NOT GIVE REFUNDS OR RE-HOME BUNNIES ONCE THEY LEAVE OUR POSSESSION.

If your bunny is not working out for your home you may return him/her to our possession up to 7 days. After 7 days, we do not accept returns or re-home bunnies if they do not work out. It is not our policy to sell other peoples bunnies. We do not have the cage space to foster. There are many resources that you can use online if you need to find them a new home.

Your bunny will need time to adjust to his/her surroundings. We play with our babies daily. They are used to being handled and snuggled. Most bunnies are timid as they leave their bunny family and move to a new family. Keep your bunny's area small and quiet for a day or two before having serious playtime. Listen to and watch your bunny, if it doesn't want to be held or touched, sit by the cage or near your bunny with a few oats in your hand. Let your bunny come to you, talk gently to it, and pet it softly. Eventually, your bunny's true personality will emerge, but it could take days or weeks to fully adjust. After a couple days you should begin holding your bunny, even if he/she is hesitant. Shower your bunny with calm affection and head rubs and a few oat treats while holding firmly but gently. Bunnies are sensitive animals, they will become dependent on you and love you for it.

Enjoy your new bunny!

All of our Florida Whites are very sweet tempered, however, I cannot guarantee that any rabbit purchased will never bite or scratch. (especially while being picked up an/or moved, they can be perfectly content while being still but being moved makes any prey animal nervous for a bit). Under no circumstances am I responsible for any damage caused by the rabbit to personal property or any personal injury, such as biting or scratching.

If it hasn't been made clear yet... ALL ADOPTIONS ARE FINAL.
